At CuriousSpark, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Chrome extension and services.
In summary: We only collect the minimum data needed to provide our service. We don't sell your data, and we don't track your browsing history.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address (for authentication and communication)
- Password (securely hashed via Firebase Authentication)
Usage Information
We track:
- Number of simplifications used (for subscription limit enforcement)
- Mode and complexity level preferences (to personalize your experience)
Content Processed
When you simplify a webpage:
- We temporarily process the text content of the page
- We send this content to our AI processing service
- We do not permanently store the original content or the generated output on our servers
Payment Information
Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details. We receive only:
- Subscription status
- Stripe customer ID (to link payments to your account)
2. What We Do NOT Collect
- Your browsing history
- Pages you visit (unless you actively click "Simplify")
- Personal files or documents
- Cookies for advertising or tracking purposes
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and improve the CuriousSpark service
- Manage your account and subscription
- Send important service updates (not marketing emails)
- Respond to support requests
- Enforce usage limits based on your subscription tier
4. Data Sharing
We share data only with:
- AI Service Providers: Page content is sent to AI services (via OpenRouter) for processing. This data is not stored by these providers beyond the processing session.
- Firebase (Authentication): Google Firebase handles user authentication.
- Stripe (Payments): Stripe processes all payments securely.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or other third parties.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers with:
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
- Access controls limiting who can view data
- Regular security updates and monitoring
6. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Usage data: Retained for billing cycle tracking
- Processed content: Not permanently stored
You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Export your data
- Opt out of non-essential communications
8. Children's Privacy
CuriousSpark is designed for educational use, including by children with parental supervision. However, account creation requires an email address and should be done by a parent or guardian for users under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
9. Chrome Extension Permissions
Our Chrome extension requests only the permissions necessary to function:
- activeTab: To access the content of the current page when you click "Simplify"
- storage: To save your preferences locally
- sidePanel: To display results in the sidebar
We do not access pages you haven't explicitly chosen to simplify.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through the Service. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when this policy was last revised.
